It was built on Emperor Koken’s order to share a god with Kushida shrine of Ise province (the present Mie prefecture) in AD 757.
Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, widely known as a summer feature of Hakata, is dedicated to this shrine.
This museum shows the example of a Japanese residence in Fukuoka city 100-150 years ago.
One of the most difficult part of Yamakasa racing course with narrow and right-angled corner.
The Fukuoka Great Buddha enshrined at Tochoji Temple is Japan’s largest wooden statue of a seated Buddha at 10.8 meters in height.
The temple is also the originator of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, held in July every year.

How to sign up
Sign up and pay the fee (only cash) in advance at the tour desk (beside the registration desk at the conference venue). Sign-up reception starts a day before each tour and closes 30 minutes before the tour departure time. For example, the sign-up for tour no. 1 is from the registration starting time on July 7 to 12:10 on July 8.
- This is a 2-hour walking tour with English speaking local guide.
- No postponement for rain.
- Lunch is not included.
- OECC/PSC 2019 will not be liable for any accidents nor injuries occurred during the tour. You are required to have travel insurance by yourself.
- Accompanying person is also welcome to join this tour. (fee-charging)
It's the spectacular festival with a race of festival floats which is held during July 1 - 15.
Enjoy the colorful decorative floats are set up on street corners from July 1.
